Museum of Russian taiga at the Vetluga (Voskresensky district)
In Voskresensky district at the river Vetluga historians and researchers have opened the Museum of Russian Taiga. In an open-air museum unique historical exhibits which have been thoroughly collected by the founders of the museum are kept here. Museum «Russian Taiga» is an environmental museum designed for people who travel by canoe along the river Vetluga.
The name of the museum has not been chosen by accident. According to a popular legend, the great Russian taiga has its origins in the north of Nizhny Novgorod oblast between the rivers Kerzhents and Vetluga. Today, everybody understands the meaning of the word «taiga», that is a wild pine forest. Though in ancient times the word had a deeper meaning.
