Nature Park «Voskresenskoe Povetluzhe» and Lake Svetloyar
One of the pearls of Nizhny Novgorod Trans-Volga region is mysterious lake Svetloyar which waters hid the ancient city of Kitezh, according to a legend. The picturesque and mysterious lake is located on the outskirts of the settlement of Vladimirskoye that has the status of historical settlement. Svetloyar is often called an «aethereal miracle» because its origin is often connected with the fall of meteorite, and some people call the lake the «Russian Atlantis». Every year on July, 6 folklore festival «The City of Kitezh — the soul of Russia» is held there. An old wooden church stands out in all its beauty on the bank of the winding river Vetluga. For three centuries of its existence (it was built in 1713), it has never been closed and has kept the spirit of original Orthodox. A bell tower and a winter church in honor of St. Zosima and Savvatiy make up a whole ensemble together with it. Nature Park «Voskresenskoe Povetluzhye» began to work in Voskresensky district in 2009. The park area is 34,983.02 hectares; it is functionally divided into three zones: environmental, recreational, and the zone of limited economic use. The first zone is located along the river Vetluga throughout the entire area, and the second one includes natural monument «Lake Svetloyar» and the area along the river Lyund.
