The complex of Holy Trinity-Saint Seraphim-Diveyevo nunnery
The settlement of Diveyevo of Nizhny Novgorod oblast is located on the bank of the river Vichkinza that is 180 km away from Nizhny Novgorod. The foundress of Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, Agatha Semenovna Melgunova, professed in Florovsky Monastery in Kiev by the name of Alexandra. Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery was the richest architectural complex, which was created over one and a half century. It can be literally said that Diveyevo temples with the hallows of patron saints, the Holy Groove and Saint springs are really world's shrines. After the revolution, the monastery existed for ten more years. During long years of desolation a lot have been destroyed. Restoration of church in Diveyevo began with the consecration of a wooden church in honor of icon of Kazan Holy Mother on Lazarus Saturday on April 30, 1989. On the holy day of icon of Kazan Holy Mother, July 8 (21), 1991 it was officially announced that Diveyevo monastery was reopened. In 2003, the 100th anniversary of the glorification of St. Seraphim of Sarov in the sainthood was celebrated, and in 2004 — the 250th anniversary of his birth. In connection with these celebrations most churches and monastery buildings were renovated and old Kazan church was almost completely restored. The Holy Groove took the form that was entrusted by St. Seraphim. In the monastery temples the holy relics of its heavenly patrons, that is, St. Seraphim of Sarov; reverend Diveyevo wives Alexandra, Martha and Helen; Diveyevo Blessed Pelagia, Paraskeva and Maria, rest in peace. This monastery is the only abode of the Holy Mother in Russia. Near the monastery there are sacred springs where one can swim and collect healing water. That is the reason why thousands of pilgrims rush here.
